After writing a short clarification of what took place with Yasir Qadhi it was but a matter of time before I was told that he was misunderstood and that I took his statements out of context! I couldn’t help but be astonished at the plethora of clarifications written on behalf of Yasir in addition to the amount of accusations directed at those who defended the great companion ‘Umar Ibn Khattab. And emboldened by the blind partisanship of his followers he offered a “clarification” rather than an apology.
Now mistakes do happen when one speaks and to err is to be human. However, as the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم said: ” The best of those who err are those who repent.” If someone has made such a horrendous error why is it so difficult to simply apologize and say that such statements are abhorrent, disgusting and should never be uttered by any believer? Why is it so difficult to put the honour of a great companion over oneself? Why is it so difficult to mention some of the virtues of ‘Umar Ibn Khattab, especially as regards to his knowledge and extraordinary ability to extract rulings from the Qur’an and the Sunnah? What is it to say simply, I was wrong?
Instead of a categorical condemnation of Yasir’s statements we simply receieve a so called “clarification” from Yasir and his followers. Annd verily the same energy that was used in condemning those who exposed Yasir could have been used to advise Yasir and condemn his statements. Without doubt, this scenario displays the bigoted partisanship of some of Yasir’s diehards and the sheer arrogance of Yasir himself. But then again, we live in a time wherein amazing things do occur on a continous basis.
