Is it possible to unite with differences in Manhaj and Aqeedah?

Shaikh Salih Ibn Fawzan Al Fawzan was Asked:

Is it possible to have unity with differences in belief and methodology?

Answer:  Unity is not possible wit differences in belief ad methodology. And the best example of this is what occured to the Arabs before the arrival of the Messenger (صلى الله عليه و سلم) , as they were seperated, however when they entered into Islam, and under the flag of Tawheed, their belief and one methodology became one and as a result they united, and were able to establish their nation, and Allah has reminded them of this in the Qur’an when he said: ” And remember the favour of Allah upon you when before you were enemies then Allah united your hearts and you became brothers by his grace”.

And Allah said to his Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) : “Even if  you were to give away everything thing in the world you would not unite their hearts but it is Allah who united them. Allah is the Most powerful, Most wise”.

And Allah never causes unity between the hearts of the Kuffar, those who are Murtad (Became Kuffar after Islam) and the deviant groups. However Allah only unites the hearts of the believers who worship Allah as one, Allah said about the Kuffar, the Hypocrites and those who have deviated against the methodology and the belief of Islam: ” You think that they are united but their hearts are divided. This is because they are a people who have no sense”.

And Allah has said: “And they have continued to differ except those who Allah has had mercy upon”.  “Except those who Allah has had mercy upon”. Are those who posess the proper belief and methodology and they are the ones who are rescued from differing.

Therefore the one who tries to unite the people with the people being upon deviant beliefs and methodologies are trying to do the impossible, because trying to unite between two opposites is impossible.

Nothing unites the hearts and the people except for Tawheed when its meaning is known and when it is acted upon in secret and in open. It is not only a statement of the tongue whilst going against what it gives evidence of*, when that happens it is of no benefit.

* Like those who say La ilaha ill Allah and at the same time go to the Prophet’s grave (صلى الله عليه و سلم) or the graves of others and makes du’a to them. That is an act which is Shirk with Allah ta’ala.
