Khutbah on establishing the religion

Given in Aldana street: 24/04/09

After Khutbatil Haajah..

For verily every Muslim whether male or female, good or evil, or upon the Sunnah or other than it seeks to establish this religion and have it as the most powerful in the land. This is because this religion is the religion of truth, the religion of Tawheed, the religion of the Prophets and the Messengers, the religion of justice, the religion og unity and brotherhood and guidance . Allah has said: “He is the one who has sent his Messenger with the guidance and the religion of truth to conquer all religions and Allah is enough as a witness.”

Know Oh Muslims that Allah has not left anything out of his book. And he has made clear the way toward establishing the religion and making it firm upon the earth, for those who want it, with clarity. Allah has said in his book: “Allah has promised those who believe from you and do righteous deeds that he would make you inherit the earth as those before them inherited the earth and he would establish the religion that he is pleased with firmly on the earth and he will replace their fears with safety. They worship me and don’t associate partners with me.”

Allah has promised us that this inheritance of the earth, meaning to inheriti it after the righteous, and establishment of the religion, and safety of the Muslims never comes except with establishing the oneness of Allah and obidience to him and obidence to the Messenger . For Imaan and the oneness of Allah come with knowledge and good deeds are those deeds which go in congruence with the book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Messenger . And the Messenger of Allah has mentioned in an authentic Hadeeth which showed the reasons for the weakness of the Muslims because of their deviating from the Shari’ah and their love for the Dunya said: “Allah will put humiliation over you, he will not lift it until you return to your religion.”

Yes, Return, for returning to what the Messenger of Allah was upon and his companions is the way to power and establishment of the religion. And to this Imam Malik said: “The last of this Ummah will not be rectified except by which the first of this ummah was rectified by.” And the one who is sucessful is the one who follows the way of the ancient ones (referring to the companions of the Messenger )

Second Khutbah:

Upon us Oh Muslims is to reflect on this verse and look at our condition with it. . And it is upon us to know that the power is with Allah alone. Allah hqas said: “Whomsoever wants power then Allah has all the power.” And Allah said: “And Allah has the power and his Messenger and the believers but the hypocrites do not know.” And Allah has made it Haraam for us to seek power from other than him like the way of the Hypocrites. Allah has said: “Do they wish for power from them then the power is with Allah only.” There is no power when one goes against the Shari’ah. There is no power in revolutions or fighting the Muslim rulers or democracy or elections. And not by innovations or partisanship that seperates the religion and makes the Muslims into groups and parties.

Power for the Muslims is only with obidience to Allah and worshipping him alone and obidience to the Messenger . And establishing the religion is through obidience of Allah and his Messenger . It isn’t by entering parliament and other than it. Therefore it is upon every Muslim to start with himself and submit totally to Allah and to worship him has one and to obey the Messenger and to make the book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Messenger as a judge in his life. And he has to place emphasis on his family and his Masjid so that this good would spread. For there is no establishment of the religion on the earth until we establish it within ourselves and there is no inheritance of the earth got us unless we do good deeds that go according to the Shari’ah. Allah said: “Allah doesn’t change a people unless they change what is within themselves.”

Is the basis of the Muslim Sunnah or Bid’ah?

Shaikh Yahya Al Haajuri was asked: Is the basis of the Muslim the Sunnah?

Answer: The basis of the Muslim whose condition is hidden is good until evil comes from him, and the basis of the Sunnah is having good opinions about him, and that he is Sunni until there is something that takes him out of being Sunni. And the basis of the innovator is innovation and having bad opinions about him. And the basis of the disbeliever is disbelief until his Islam is known. For these are clear principles which is evidenced by a narration from Umar when he said: “Whomsoever shows good to us we trust him and accept him and whomsoever shows other than that we don’t trust him or accept him even if his secret life is good.” And other than that from evidences which shows that one operates with the people with what is apparant of their condition.

Does a Muslim stay away from Fitan At all times?

ال الإمام ابن باز -رحمه الله تعالى- في أحد إملاءاته:

Al Imam Ibn Baaz said in one of his writings:

Understanding the Hadeeth concerning Fitnah (Trials, Tribulations)

From Abdul Azeez Ibn Abdillah Ibn Baaz to the noble brother the Shaikh… may Allah guide him to which he is pleased with and increase him in knowledge and Imaan. Ameen

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaatuhu,

You letter dates 24/Muharram 1411 has reached me, may Allah make you arrive to his guidance, and I checked all that you mentioned. And it makes me happy to inform you that the Ahadeeth concerning Fitnah and warning from it according to the people of knowledge are the Fitan (trials) where the one who is correct is not known from the one who is wrong and it is upon the believer to stay away from it. And it is what the Prophet meant when he said: The one who is sitting is better than the one who is standing, and the one who is walking is better than the one who is running…
As for the trails where the one who is right is known from the one who is wrong and the oppressor from the oppresed this does not enter in the aforementioned Ahadeeth. But evidences of the Shariah from the book and the Sunnah show that it is compulsory to help the one who is correct and oppressed upon the one who trangresses and oppresses. And from this is what happened between Ali and Mu’awiyah Radiallaho Anhuma. For the one who was correct according to Ahlus Sunnah was Ali and he was a Mujtahid who got two rewards. And Mu’aawiyah and those who were with him were wrong but they were Mujtahidoon, those who looked for the truth, and they have one reward, may Allah be pleased with all of them.

Asking from people for da’wah

It was asked to Allamah, Shaikh Rabee ibn Haadee Al Madhkhali : Our Shaikh Muqbil founded the da’wah salafiyyah here in Yemen based upon self sufficiency and he authored a book titled “The blameworthiness of asking”. Our question is: Some of the callers sometimes ask the people money for the purpose of Da’wah. So what is the criteria in asking from people for the purpose of da’wah?

The Shaikh answered:

In any case, May Allah have Mercy upon Shaikh Muqbil and I ask Allah to succeed him with good in Yemen and other than Yemen. For verily this person, may Allah have Mercy on him, reminds us of the asceticism of the salaf, their abstinence, their honour and rank, their refusal (to accept monies from the people) and their courage in speaking a statement of truth. And the Da’wah salafiyyah was elevated and spread in Yemen and (people) were cured by it and (he) left for them great goodness. We ask Allah to bless his students and to bring forth from them many like him (Shaikh Muqbil); for verily, by Allah, he was an model in piety and abstinence and refusal of worldly matters. And he was given insight (by Allah) when he used to refuse money and warned against asking people. And I am reminded that he used to launch a fierce attack on anyone who collected money in his (Shaikh Muqbil’s) name. So he used to not compromise in this matter, May Allah bless him. And is NOT a necessity to approach people asking them in the name of da’wah; the salaf never did that. And Ahmad ibn Hanbal rahimahullah, did he stretch out his hand asking the people for the purpose of da’wah? He used to refuse money – and he is cited as a model of abstinence in his refusal and dignity when he traveled to Abdur Razzaaq from Iraq to San’aa. On the way, he and his companion, Yahya ibn Ma’een, performed Hajj and found Abdur Razzaaq in Makkah. So ibn Ma’een said to Ahmad: “Here is Abdur Razzaaq. Allah has brought him to us so we do not need to travel.” Ahmad replied: “I have made the intention to travel to San’aa so I will not return.” Then he traveled to Sanaa and on the way he ran out of money. When his companions found out, they offered him monetary assistance. But Imam Ahmad refused and instead opted to work as a porter for the bedouin camel owners, carrying loads on his back – and he was an Imam rahimahullah. He saw that porterage, work and eating from the sweat of ones own hands was better by thousands of times than taking money from the people; because the upper hand is the one that gives and the lower hand is the one that receives. And Ahmad did not want his hand to be the lower one, may Allah be pleased with him. So I advise the scholars and the students of knowledge to return towards the biographies of the nobility of the salaf, and let them be aware that eagerness to seek money is from the most dangerous of dangers upon the Da’wah Salafiyyah. And the proof of that is that the current fitnah was sparked because of money when, may Allah bless you, some people started stretching their hands out to this Jam’iyyah and that Jam’iyyah (charity organization). So week refuge with Allah from the fitnah of money. Verily it is fitnah, by Allah. And by Allah, it is but a very small number of students who come out of the masjid and are self sufficient, noble and honoured. And (these) are better than millions and millions of those ‘students of money’ and those destroyed by the dunya (worldly matters). So we advise the salafi youth and the scholars from amongst them to return towards the biographies of the salaf. As they (the salaf) raised the banner of the sunnah, so to they also raised the banner of honour, nobility, asceticism, abstinence and the dislike of chasing after the dunya. By Allah, nothing has harmed the Da’wah Salafiyyah in Yemen more than the exposure of money and the panting after it and it has given rise to this fitnah now.

And money is a strong arrow in igniting the fire of trials. Unless there is repentance to Allah and returning to Allah and brotherhood for the sake of Allah. We advise them with calling one another to the truth and calling one another to patience in every difficulty of life. {And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to the patient ones} (Al Baqarah:155). And by Allah, verily the salaf did not bring this da’wah to us by way of tender, soft money and vessels. But they brought it to us by their asceticism, abstinence and turning away (from wealth), may Allah be pleased with them. So we advise the salafees in every place and in Yemen especially – that Yemen which Allah has raised in it the banner of the Sunnah: That they guard this da’wah; and if money was to come to them, then it will spoil that which is between them so it is upon them to kick it away with their legs. And they should traverse upon their path honoured and enobled spreading the noble, clean da’wah of Allah.

Diseases of the tongue and our community.

Bismillah Ar Rahmaan Ar Raheem,

From the things that lead to the destruction of a Muslim is the tongue. And it is from the things that lead to the disunity of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah. And to this I will put some verses and Ahadeeth that pertain to this issue and short notes afterwards. May Allah make it easy upon us to be from amongst those who hear the beneficial speech and obey it.

Allah said in his book: “And do not say that which you have no knowledge about, verily the hearing, the eyesight and the hearts are responsible.”

And he said: “Verily my Lord has prevented evil deeds that are apparant and secret and sin and trangression without right and to make partners with Allah which he sent no authority for and to say about Allah which you do not know.”

Allah said in his book: “And do not backbite each other, would you like to be from those who eat the dead meat of your brother so that you dislike it. And fear Allah. Allah is the Tawwabur Raheem.”

And he also said: “Oh ye who believe if news comes to you from a Faasiq verify it.”

The Prophet (Salallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said in a Hadeeth in Tirmidhi: “And wouldn’t the people’s faces be thrown into the fire from their tongues?’”

And he said (Salallahu Alaihi wa sallam) : “If it is true what you said about him (what he dislikes) then this is Gheebah and if it is that what you said is untrue it is Buhtaan (lieing)”

And he said (Salallahu Alaihi wa sallam): “The one who is a Qataat (one who carries tales between two people to cause mischief between them) will not enter Jannah.”

And there are many other references that can be used however I wish not to go into much detail. I would just like to remind myself and the public about the seriousness of safeguarding our tongues. And from the benefits of these Ayaats and Ahadeeth are:

(1) Lieing upon Allah and saying about Allah which one doesn’t know is a major sin.

(2) Keeping away from saying that which one doesn’t know. It also shows the Haraam nature of conveying a Fatwa of a Shaikh unless he has the evidences. As Shaikh Muqbil said: “Alhamdu Lillah Ahlus Sunnah do not make Taqleed because Allah said “Do not say that which you have no knowledge about.”

(3) That Gheebah is like eating the dead flesh of one’s brother/sister.

(4) That is it a major sin that requires repentence since Allah said in the end of the Ayah that he is Tawwab Ar Raheem.

(5) That a person’s tongue can be the reason as to why he enters the fire or Jannah.

(6) The seriousness of saying something about someone which he wouldn’t like to be mentioned.

(7) That carrying tales between people to cause discord is a major sin which can be a reason for one being burnt in the hellfire in order to be purified from that sin.

After all these benefits we should see that backbiting, slandering, tale-carrying etc are major sins that we must restrain from. However, our community, i.e the Salafi community, is afflicted by these diseases and we seek Allah’s help. All this has caused disunity and hatred between those who had unity and love. Because we couldn’t hold that tongue there is seperation. Because we can’t hold that tongue there is rancour between brothers. And we are allowed in the Sunnah to lie and say good things to bring unity between brothers. However, instead all we seek to bring is seperation until the clothing of “advice.”

We must be careful. And we must not occupy our good health and “free” time, I say free time however time is even more expensive than gold the size of Mount Everest, in these nefarious activites which can only land us face down into the Hellfire. Rather if we spent our time learning the Qur’an and the Sunnah, memorizing both, understanding and practicing both and calling toward both we would find our time expensive and not waste our time on such trivial matters.

Wallahi I called some of the Ulama at times and they were busy. I once called Shaikh Wasiyullah about an issue in marriage and he told me: “Don’t make the question long I am giving a lecture.” I tried to call Shaikh Yahya about an issue in marriage that a sister asked me and he said: “Busy, Busy.” I called Shaikh Muhammad Al Imam about the same issue and he said: “I am busy can you call next few hours inshallah?” even Shaikh Muhammad Al Maliki when I call at times I just get the voice message because at these times he doesn’t answer the phone. However, if a brother calls a brother or sister calls to gossip, unlike the Ulama who’s time is expensive, we spend our time which is free, cheap and has no blessings on frivolity and games.

Brothers and sisters, spend time in remembering Allah, speaking good words, seeking knowledge and doing good deeds. Do not be one who has spent his life wallowing in his disease and having nothing to show for it. Rather let us imitate our Ulama and use the time for good. The Prophet (Salallahu alaihi wa sallam) said as reported in Kitaab Uz Zuhd by Wakee’ Ibn Jarraah on the authority of Ibn Abbas: “Two favours that many people waste, good health and time.”

Allahu Musta’aan
