Part 1a: His ignorance of Tawheed
In his article he said: “Even Imam Shafie left out the Qunoot which is part of his mazhab when he performed the morning prayer at the grave site of Abu Hanifa“.
On this note I shall look into three matters:
i) The basis of his statement with a review of its chain of narration {Part 1a will be focused on this}
ii) The ruling on praying and seeking blessings at the grave of a pious person {this will be discussed in Part 1b)
Therefore I proceed:
i) The basis of this statement with the chain of narration
This basis of his statement is the following narration:
On the authority of Ali Ibn Maymuun, he said: I heard Ash Shafi’e say: “Verily I seek blessings from Abu Haneefah, And I go to his grave every day- meaning as a visitor- and whenever I was in need, I prayed two Raka’ah and go to his grave, and I used to ask Allah my need by the by it”. This is narrated by Khateeb Al Baghdadi in Ta’reekh Ul Baghdaad {1/123} from the narration of Umar Ibn Ishaaq Ibn Ibraheem he said: Ali Ibn Maymuun gave us news…
Shaikh Naasir Ud Deen Al Albani said in his book: Silsilah Al Ahadeeth Ad Da’eefah {1/31}: This narration is weak, rather it is false. For verily Umar Ibn Ishaaq Ibn Ibraheem is unknown, and he is not mentioned in any of the books of Rijaal… .
From this we see that one of the narrators of this story is unknown in two ways:
1) As a person he is unknown.
2) His condition is unknown.
And the scholars of Hadeeth have agreed that it is Haraam to take from the narrations of those who are unknown. Imam As Suyuti said in his book Tadreeb Ur Rawi {page 172}: “The majority of scholars do not accept the one who is unknown in terms of his ‘Adalah whether open or secret…. and as for the one who is not known at all some who accept the narration of one who is unknown in terms of ‘Adalah do not accept this type of narration (the one who is not known at all)“. And this is called Hadeeth Ul Mubham.
Ibn Katheer said in his book Iktisaar Uluum Ul Hadeeth {page 90 with the checking of Shaikh Ahmad Muhammad Shakir}: “And as for the unknown person who is unnamed, or the one who is named and remains unknown, then he is from those that no one is known to accept narrations from”.
Therefore, this narration is completely unacceptable in the first place and hence unlawful to narrate.
Introduction of the refutation.
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
الحمد لله رب العالمين و نصلى و نسلم على رسوله الكريم و بعد
This series is a refutation of an article authored by Aleem Mohammed (may Allah guide him) who formally studied in Dar Ul Uluum, Trinidad and Tobago. It showed the blind partisanship and ignorance of this poor student who has recently graduated from this institution. However, instead of keeping it in his possession it was posted in some of the Masjids of the Island of Trinidad. After having read and re-read the article I noticed the following things which must be refuted publicly:
i) Ignorance of Tawheed.
ii) His use of spurious sources.
iii) His compounded ignorance of the science of Hadeeth.
iv) His blind partisanship toward Abu Haneefah.
v) Deception of the people.
May Allah guide him and all of us to what is correct.
