Da’wah in Trinidad. Part 2
In this part two I will speak about those who I consider to be Tullab Ul Ilm even if people do not consider them to be Tullab Ul Ilm and who I think should play a greater part in the da’wah effort.
I am speaking about those who haven’t had the chance to go away or have not went away as yes but mashallah they have learnt the Arabic language and in many cases have memorized books and have had a great effect upon those who have been around them.
I know of some who have memorised Usuul Uth Thalatha, Qawa’id Al Arba’, 40 Hadeeth Nawawi, Nawaqid Ul Islam and a good portion of the Qur’an. Also Alhamdu Lillah they have good understanding of the Da’wah of the Salaf even better than those who are considered Tulaab Ul Ilm and Shaikhs by the public. So why is it that they don’t have a greater role in the da’wah?
Is it that by going to a foreign country that revelation descends from the sky and a stamp is put on one’s forehead? Or is it because people just want the prestige? As I see it knowledge is knowledge. Whether the brother went to Saudi Arabia, Yemen or even learnt what he learnt of his religion here in Trinidad knowledge is knowledge. We have to look at the situation of the Munafiqeen in Madinah to understand this issue.
The Munafiquun who are in the lowest end of the hellfire were with the Messenger (Salallahu alaihi wa sallam) but that didn’t benefit them anything. Rather Allah has said about them: “Verily the Munafiqeen do not understand anything”. So why is it that the people do not see these brothers who I consider as Tulaab Ul Ilm as just the average man?
I have two responses:
1) Jealousy: this is because many don’t want to be exposed as ignorant people and therefore place them in the category of the Jaahil.
2) Ignorance of the religion: this is because many people don’t know what knowledge is. They think that knowledge is a certificate and by Allah that certificate doesn’t show anything. As one of my old partners said about the PNM political party: “If they put a crapaud (type of frog) in a suit with a Baliser flower (the PNM signal) they would still vote for him”. And these people if a crapaud had a certificate and wears a thobe and a turban they will take that crapaud as one of the Ulama. That is the level of many of the people in this country. And Allah’s help is sought.
Thing is I said this before and I will say it again. Many people teach others to follow them rather than to follow the Sunnah. That is why you find that those who are around the callers to Hizbeeyah amongst the so called graduates (not all, Alhamdu lillah we have some who are Salafi and teach the people good) are often more ignorant than the family’s donkey. They remain people of Taqleed, wherever their Shaikh or should I call them their Pirs carry them they sway.
As for the Salafi da’ee he calls those around him to good and to follow the Sunnah. And as a result they become students of knowledge who have the ability to understand the religion of Allah and call to it upon proper insight. This should be the goal of every da’ee. It is only through this way that this blessed da’wah will spread.
However, if one just wants others to follow him and take his word for it you would see that those around him would remain ignorant of their religion. As a result the goal is not to spread the da’wah but rather put themselves as a point of return. May Allah destroy those who have hidden under the blanket of the Sunnah to spread their own agendas.
I therefore think that these brothers who have strength in learning should be entered into gatherings where through being around Da’ees who are considered as Tullaab or even Shaikhs can strengthen their knowledge and become more powerful da’ees to Allah in their towns and villages.
And Allah knows best

ONE. The Prevention of Knowledge: Knowledge is a light which Allaah throws into the heart and disobedience extinguishes this light.
Imaam Shaafi'ee said:
I complained to Wakee' about the weakness of my memory
So he ordered me to abandon disobedience
And informed me that the knowledge is light
And that the light of Allaah is not given to the disobedient
TWO. The Prevention of Sustenance: Just as Taqwaa brings about sustenance, the abandonment of Taqwaa causes poverty. There is nothing which can bring about sustenance like the abandonment of disobedience
THREE. The prevention of obedience (to Allaah). If there was no other punishment for sin other than that it prevents one from obedience to Allaah then this would be sufficient.
FOUR. Disobedience weakens the heart and the body. Its weakening the heart is something which is clear. Disobedience does not stop weakening it until the life of the heart ceases completely.
FIVE. Disobedience reduces the lifespan and destroys any blessings. Just as righteousness increases the lifespan, sinning reduces it.
SIX. Disobedience sows its own seeds and gives birth to itself until separating from it and coming out of it becomes difficult for the servant.
SEVEN. Sins weaken the hearts will and resolve so that the desire for disobedience becomes strong and the desire to repent becomes weak bit by bit until the desire to repent is removed from the heart completely.
EIGHT. Every type of disobedience is a legacy of a nation from among the nations which Allaah Azzawajall destroyed. Sodomy is a legacy of the People of Lot, taking more than one's due right and giving what is less is a legacy of the People of Shu'ayb, seeking greatness in the land and causing corruption is a legacy of the People of Pharoah and pride/arrogance and tyranny is a legacy of the People of Hud. So the disobedient one is wearing the gown of some of these nations who were the enemies of Allaah.
NINE. Disobedience is a cause of the servant being held in contempt by his Lord. Al-Hasan al-Basree (rh) said: They became contemptible in (His sight) so they disobeyed Him. If they were honourable (in His sight) He would have protected them. Allah the Exalted said:
And whomsoever Allaah lowers (humiliates) there is none to give honour. [Hajj 22:18]
TEN. The ill-effects of the sinner fall upon those besides him and also the animals as a result of which they are touched by harm.
ELEVEN. The servant continues to commit sins until they become very easy for him and seem insignificant in his heart and this is a sign of destruction. Every time a sin becomes insignificant in the sight of the servant it becomes great in the sight of Allaah.
Ibn Mas’ood (ra) said: Indeed, the believer sees his sins as if he was standing at the foot of a mountain fearing that it will fall upon him and the sinner sees his sins like a fly which passes by his nose so he tries to remove it by waving his hand around. [Bukhaaree]
TWELVE. Disobedience inherits humiliation and lowliness. Honour, all of it, lies in the obedience of Allaah. Abdullaah ibn al-Mubaarak said:
I have seen sins kill the hearts
And humiliation is inherited by their continuity
The abandonment of sins gives life to the hearts
And the prevention of your soul is better for it
THIRTEEN. Disobedience corrupts the intellect. The intellect has light and disobedience extinguishes this light. When the light of the intellect is extinguished it becomes weak and deficient.
FOURTEEN. When disobedience increases, the servant’s heart becomes sealed so that he becomes of those who are heedless. The Exalted said:
But no! A stain has been left on their hearts on account of what they used to earn (i.e. their actions) [Mutaffifeen 83:14]
FIFTEEN. Sins cause the various types of corruption to occur in the land. Corruption of the waters, the air, the plants, the fruits and the dwelling places. The Exalted said:
Mischief has appeared on the land and the sea on account of what the hands of men have earned; that He may give them a taste of some of (the actions) they have done, in order that they may return. [Rum 30:41]
SIXTEEN. The disappearance of modesty which is the essence of the life of the heart and is the basis of every good. Its disappearance is the disappearance of all that is good. It is authentic from the Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) that he said: Modesty is goodness, all of it [Bukhaaree and Muslim] A Poet said:
And by Allaah, there is no good in life Or in the world when modesty goes
SEVENTEEN. Sins weaken and reduce themagnification of Allaah, the Mighty in the heart ofthe servant
EIGHTEEN. Sins are the cause of Allaah forgetting His servant, abandoning him and leaving him to fend for himself with his soul and his shaytaan and in this is the destruction from which no deliverance can be hoped for.
NINETEEN. Sins remove the servant from the realm of Ihsaan (doing good) and he is prevented from (obtaining) the reward of those who do good. When Ihsaan fills the heart it prevents it from disobedience.
TWENTY. Disobedience causes the favours (of Allaah) to cease and make His revenge lawful. No blessing ceases to reach a servant except due to a sin and no retribution is made lawful upon him except due to a sin. Alee (ra) said: No trial has descended except due to a sin and it (the trial) is not repelled except by repentance. Allaah the Exalted said:
Whatever misfortune afflicts you then it is due to what your hands have earned and (yet) He pardons many [Shura 42:30]
And the Exalted also said:
That is because never will Allaah change the favour He has bestowed on a people until they change what is with themselves [Anfaal 8:53]
Shaikh Rabee’ and the Tableeghis.
The Story of Shaykh Rabee’ and Jamaa’at ut-Tableegh, the Heretical
Sect of India
Shaykh Rabee’ was asked about Jamaa’ah ut-Tableegh, so he said:
I have never gone with this Jamaa’ah, but indeed, I went for work,
then, like, to Kashmir. And I became vacated from this work, and I
passed through Delhi, so it was said to me: “Let us go to such and
such place to visit the da’wah center of Jamaa’at ut-Tableegh, and to,
like, Nidhaam ud-Deen.”
Nidhaam ud-Deen, this is a masjid nearby the da’wah center of Jamaa’at
ut-Tableegh, and inside of it are five graves, atop which are domes,
which are worshipped alongside of Allaah, a clear worship, no dust on
it (i.e. a figurative expression meaning that it is plain for everyone
to see).
Then we went out to the masjid of Jamaa’at ut-Tableegh, and it was
being said, like, the people were disagreeing with each other as to
whether there were graves in it or there weren’t graves in it.
So ‘Abdur-Rubb asked, this one whom I have mentioned, he asked a
number of them: “Is there in this masjid – the masjid of Jamaa’at
ut-Tableegh – a grave or some graves?”
The clever ones [amongst them] said: “No, there are no graves in it.
The grave of Illiyaas [1] is buried in Makkah,” or such-and-such
place, some far away place.
So he continued to ask until an individual guided him or informed him
that the grave of Illiyaas was in the masjid, and next to it, the
grave of his wife.
Then he came with the brother ‘Abdur-Rubb to the two graves and stood
over them. Then after he made sure [that these were the graves], he
came back and said: “Come, I will show you these two graves.”
So we looked, and so he said: “This is the grave of Illiyaas, and this
is the grave of his wife, and they are inside of the masjid.”
Then after that, we verified that there were four graves in this
masjid, not two. We verified [this fact] from some trustworthy people
who accompanied Jamaa’at ut-Tableegh for years and knew this true
state of affairs… [End of Shaykh's words]
From the book Jamaa’at ut-Tableegh (p. 450). The actual audio is also

[1] He is Muhammad Illiyaas, the heretical Deobandee who founded
Jamaa’at ut-Tableegh in the 1920s, may Allaah give him what he
deserves. For further information on him and his evil sect, one should
refer to the book “al-Qawl ul-Baleegh fit-Tahdheer min Jamaa’at
it-Tableegh” of the Noble Shaykh Hamood Bin ‘Abdullaah at-Tuwayjiree
(d. 1413). Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan praised this book, saying that he
did not leave out anything with regards to his exposing this deviant
sect.
This is picture evidence that the Jama’ah Ut Tableegh worship graves. Muhammad Ilyass’s grave is the 4th to the bottom and it is actually in the Masjid as Shaikh Rabee’ said. And Allah’s help is sought.

The Sunnah
Shaikh Muhammad Alee As Saayis , teacher of Al Azhar University said about the Sunnah:
And from the matters in which there is no difference of opinion is that the Sunnah is the Key to the book of Allah which is used as a guidance to the Book in terms of uncovering its reality, and looking into its intricicies . For verily the Qur’an is that which the Shariah springs from, and contains knowledge of everything which is evidenced from Allah’s saying: “We haven’t left anything out of the book “. And he said: ” We have sent a book which clarifies everything”. And he said : “Today I have completed for you your religion”.
And the responsibility of Prophethood means the responsibility of conveying the message from Allah and clarifying its orders and prohibitions. Allah has said: “Oh Prophet convey which has been sent down to you by your Lord and if you do not do this you would not have spread your message”. He also said: “And we sent a rememberence (The Sunnah) to make clear that which has been revealed to the people (The Qur’an)”. Therefore this shows that the Sunnah has to be followed.
And if it is that we hold on to the Sunnah and act upon it in fact we would be acting upon the book of Allah. It was said to Mutarrif Ibn Abdillah : Do not speak from anything except the Qur’an. He then said: We do not want a replacement for it but we want to take it from one who knows the Qur’an better than us (1). And Imam Auza’ee narrated from Hassan Ibn Ateeyah: The revelation was sent to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) and Angel Jibreel used to be present with the Sunnah which was used to explain the Qur’an, therefore whatever came from the Prophet (صلى الله علية و سلم) from his sayings, his actions or his permissions did not come except from revelation (Allah said) :” And he does not speak from desire. It is only a revelation unto him “.
And some people have become astray and have led others astray, because they have thrown the Sunnah behind their back and they say that in the Qur’an there is clarification for everything so what is the need of the Sunnah? And they think, in error, that their view of the Qur’an would be enough to reach their goal , and the Rafidah (a sect from amongst the Shia), the Jahmeeyah and the Khawarij have gone against consensus, for the Rafidah have rejected the Hadeeth: ” We the Prophets do not leave anything as inheritence , and we do not leave it as charity”, because they think that Allah’s saying: “Allah has advised you about your children”. And the Jahmeeyah have rejected all the Hadeeth about Allah’s description thinking that the verse :”There is nothing like him”, contradicts this. And the Khawarij rejected the Hadeeths of intercession in the hereafter using the saying of Allah: “Oh ye who believe give out from which has been given to you in charity before there comes a day where there is no bargaining, friendship or intercession”. And also they have rejected the Hadeeth about those with big sins leaving the hellfire because of what they have understood from the verses which contain threats.
And the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) : about this from what he has been given from the unseen, and he spoke about those who reject the Hadeeth of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) , it was narrated from him that he said: “It is feared that men amongst you who will be lying down will be told of a Hadeeth that comes from me and he says: Between us and you is the Book of Allah. Whatever we find in it that is Halaal we make it Halaal and whatever we find in it that is Haraam we make it Haraam. But verily whatever the Messenger of Allah has made Haraam Allah has made Haraam”.
So what is it that made these people only take from what is apparant from the book, and not seeking guidance of the book from the light of Prophethood and the message whilst even the Book (the Qur’an) orders this (following the Sunnah)? Allah has said: “Whatever Allah has given you take it and whatever he has prevented you from leave it”, And he said : ” Let those who diffrentiate from his orders be warned of a trail or a great punishment overcomming them”.
And these Ayaat show that the Sunnah must be used, and returning to it .
(1) It was narrated in Daarimee that Sa’eed Ibn Jubair was once teaching a class and was narrating Hadeeth. A man came into the class and told him: “In the Book of Allah there is something that goes against this”. The Imam then said: “The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) had more knowledge of the Qur’an than you have”.
Back in Masjid as Sunnah teaching
Yup, we did some Arabic today (Ta’beer Mustawa Al Awwal) and it seemed that the brothers enjoyed it. I have a way about me where I make things fun and easy for everyone to do. I also gave the brothers some simple tips to learn Arabic and they are as follows:
1) Read
2) Write
3) Listen
4) Speak.
Without these four the acquisition of a language can become a very difficult task. And of course we went into a little bit of Aqeedah, some Adaaab and also a little bit of Grammar. I hope that Allah ta’ala would use that as a way to forgive my sins I have done throughout and that it may serve as a Kaffarah (expiation).
Tomorrow inshallah is the same scene. I ask Allah to open the minds of the students and make it easy for them. Ameen.
