Sister’s parties!!!
Now I have to talk a little bit about this because it is something widespread these days and has to be adressed.
Now Islam has allowed freedoms for the woman that have not been allowed for other women even up to today. Unfortunately, some sisters do not think that the freedoms that Allah gave them is enough therefore they indulge in what is called sister’s parties.
This is how it is done. A flier is put out for sisters to go by so and so’s house and then they have a big blowout. Or what my friend Jibreel from England used to call a ’shack out’. A party so to speak where there is Music, wining, grinding etc. Now it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to tell you that this is Haraam. In another post I will put the details inshallah in terms of evidences however for now I will just say something to get our sisters thinking.
The nature of the woman, especially the Muslim woman is to be Afeefah (meaning to be modest) and that is why she wears the Hijaab. This is because Hijaab (I should say proper Hijaab) is not only a piece of cloth that veils the bossoms of a woman but in addition it is a symbol of modesty and chastity for the Muslim woman and this should be reflected with her behaviour.
Now a simple question to you bloggers. When a woman shakes like a chac chac and wines and whatever else they do with music that orders one to do so is this corresponding to this modesty, purity and chastity which Allah has ordered or is it an action that contradicts what this dress symbolizes?
Again no focus on behaviour or what is on the inside. It is rather unfortunate that the foucs is to present a facade rather than what is real. This is why Allah said in Surah ‘Aaraf: “Oh children of Aadam we gave you clothing to cover your bodies and as a decoration, and the clothing of fear of Allah is better”. Yes, the clothing of Taqwa (fear of Allah) is better as it decorates the Muslim because he/she does what Allah commands, stays away from what he forbids and does not pass his bounds.
Emasculation of men
I like this post by Umar Lee about “The Wimp Culture”. Check it out. Thumbs up to this blogger on the real.
America is till digesting the Virginia Tech school shooting and trying to figure out why this happened and why so many young people had to die. This is first and foremost a tragedy, and something that all of us, especially Americans, should feel sad about, but this did not happen in a vacuum and I would like to address some of the issues that people have been discussing related to the shooting:
“Wimp Culture”
This issue has been brought up by some conservative bloggers, and is in line with what I have been saying for a long time about the ill-effects of the emasculation of males and the vilification of masculinity. It is also important to point out that although this issue seems to have been brought up by the right they do not own this issue. It is only in recent times has the left come to be associated with touchy-felly softness and we can look at great leaders from our American past such as Presidents John F. Kennedy and Franklin Delano Roosevelt who were at once tough and compassionate.
One of the duties that a male has traditionally had is to protect himself, his property, women, and those weaker around him. This was seen as a thing of honor and character and this was taught to me by my father as his father had taught him. When I was a kid I was taught to defend myself and if I did not I would be in trouble at home. Lee kids were not to be bullied.
At school, in my generation, we were taught that was wrong and piece by piece the popular culture attacked each one of these things. Instead of protecting ourselves and our property we were taught to let ourselves get beat up and then run to the teacher or the cops and of course this spawned a generation of wimps and I am sure that this younger generation is even wimpier. Of course this teaching ultimately benefited bullies and thieves as they found a wide-range of people to steal from and shakedown without fear of reprisal (In case you didn’t know people like that aren’t scared of teachers and cops).
The male protection of women we would be taught was a vestige of a bygone era of patriarchy and male chauvinism and needed to be discarded. If women needed to be protected, the state would take care of it (and we can see what great success that has had with the high rates of domestic violence and sexual abuse). So it is possible in this day and time for a woman to be beaten and bullied and no men around will do anything because they do not think it is their job.
So, in this day and age, when boys are raised no different than girls, and educators are told to report boys so they can be doped up if they show signs of the young warrior. The young male in many cases has lost his natural instinct to protect those around him and has been taught there is no virtue in it and in being tough and standing one’s ground.
Did this play a role in the shooting? We don’t know the answer to this. Surely some of the people would have been shot no matter what; but what kills me is that some people (reportedly) actually lined-up to be shot! Now call me crazy, but if I only have a few minutes left to live if there is ever a time to be tough, if there is ever time to be a man, if there is time to have courage, it is at that moment. If ten people are lined up and a few of them jump on this guy, who doesn’t look that tough, a lot of lives could have been saved. But I do not blame them for this failure. I blame the popular culture which has equated honorable defense with barbarism.
Before I leave this topic I would like to give a personal example of what I am talking about. A few years ago a guy I knew was robbed and stabbed in his home and after getting assaulted for a while he decided to fight back and beat the guy up instead of just sitting there and getting beat up. Well, what happened? His wealthy liberal friends had a heated discussion with many of them being angry charging that he beat up his robber and stabber too bad! That is where a lot of people are.
It is also interesting to know that an act of real selfless heroism came not from a string young man; but from a 75 year old professor and holocaust survivor by the name of Liviu Librescu.
A bit stressed.
A lot of things going on and these days I am just focusing on myself. But even that is getting hard.
First there is school, Alhamdu Lillah teaching is rewarding but the students I have are bad kids. I am serious they are really bad kids. Rude, obnoxious and even one of them threatened to me by saying ‘I will buss yuh throat’. Well subsequent to that he got hit by three extremely hard lashes by yours truly. Now I think he knows better than to say that nonsense.
Today I just relaxed and listened to the Khutbah by Shaikh Zayed Al Wassabi in Masjid as Sunnah to remind me of the day of judgement. And also Nuneeyah Qahtaneeyah. Two great things to listen to for real. I think I should put more stuff on Audio inshallah so I can just cool it.
But for real it is stressful and for me it is not worth the money or the time to stress myself like that. Teaching bad, ghetto children is not for me at all and I realized that another lucrative career is better inshallah.
It may seem that I am complaining. I am not, it is good to be productive and to go out every morning knowing that you have something to do. At the same time teaching is a temporary scene for me and I cannot see it as permanent. I mean if Allah gives me that as a career then Mashallah I can’t complain. But as I see it now it is not a cool scene at all.
